The Chamber Music Week is coming up
The Stauffer Academy opens the new academic year with an extraordinary initiative dedicated to chamber music. From October 1 to 5, David Finckel and Wu Han — internationally acclaimed chamber musicians and Artistic Directors of the Chamber Music Society of the Lincoln Center in New York — will lead the Stauffer ensembles in a series of masterclasses, open lessons and a final concert, which will take place on Saturday, October 5, at 6:30 PM, at the Sala Manfredini of the “Ala Ponzone” Civic Museum in Cremona.
The Chamber Music Week is a precious opportunity for students enrolled in the Academy’s String Quartet and Viola & Chamber Music courses to work closely with two prominent international artists and delve deeper into the interpretation of the repertoire they are studying. Each day will culminate in an Open Class, where students and professors will come together to listen to and discuss the performances of selected participating groups. This dynamic format offers each ensemble an immersive experience in the art of chamber music, while other students of the Academy can observe the interpretive journey of their colleagues up close. The Open Classes will also be open to students from the University of Pavia‘s Department of Musicology and the Cremona Conservatory.
Cellist David Finckel, a member of the legendary Emerson String Quartet for over 30 years, has won numerous international prizes, including nine Grammy Awards. Pianist Wu Han, co-founder of the record label ArtistLed and the Music@Menlo festival, has played a pivotal role in redefining the boundaries of chamber music by curating programmes of extraordinary innovation. Together as Artistic Directors of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Finckel and Han form a remarkable duo, known for their unique synergy and commitment to the training of the young generations of musicians.
“We are thrilled to welcome two such remarkable artists, prominent figures on the international concert stage. The Stauffer Academy wants to be a centre for artistic exchange, where advanced training goes hand in hand with the creation and development of strong connections with the professional world. This way we can offer our students concrete support for the start of their careers in music,” says Angelica Suanno, Director of the Stauffer Academy.
The final concert is programmed on October 5 at 6:30 PM at the Sala Manfredini of the “Ala Ponzone” Civic Museum in Cremona. Admission is free, subject to availability.
