Ready for the next ‘Stauffer Talk’? On Monday, 6 December at 6.30 p.m. we will be in live streamingi conversation with the world-famous violinist Julian Rachlin, the multi-talented violist Sarah McElravy and Andrea Obiso, first violin of the Orchestra dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia.
Julian Rachlin is one of the most charismatic artistic personalities of our time. In a musical career spanning over thirty years, Rachlin’s multiple interests have led him to perform worldwide as a conductor and soloist and to engage as a teacher and artistic director. As a violinist, Rachlin is a regular guest of all major international orchestras. His masterclass at the Stauffer Centre for Strings will focus on the greatest masterpieces of the violin and orchestra repertoire.
Sarah McElravy possesses equal virtuosity on both the violin and viola. Highly regarded in Europe, North America and Asia, Sarah McElravy performs with the world’s major orchestras. McElravy will be a guest of the Stauffer Center for a four-day masterclass focusing on the study of the chamber music repertoire for viola. In particular, the course is aimed at young violists interested in delving into the repertoire for viola and piano, as well as chamber music groups (string trios, quartets and quintets).
Born in 1994, Andrea Obiso was appointed First Violin of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia at only 25 years of age. A reference point among Italian violinists of the new generation, Andrea began studying the violin at the age of six, under the guidance of his parents, making his debut as soloist in 2007 with the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana. In 2019, he graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music where he also deepened his study of conducting, composition and musical aesthetics. He is one of the 10 teachers of the new Stauffer Concertmaster Artist Diploma.
