Since its founding in 2000, the Cremona Quartet has established itself as one of the most interesting chamber ensembles internationally. Regularly invited to perform at major festivals and music festivals in Europe, South America, the United States and the Far East, they achieve universal acclaim for their high level of interpretation.

After receiving the “BBT Fellowship” in 2005, the Cremona Quartet was awarded in 2019 the “Franco Buitoni Award” given by Borletti Buitoni Trust, for its constant contribution to the promotion of chamber music in Italy and around the world.

In 2020 the Cremona Quartet celebrates its first 20 years of career, a milestone of great significance, for which high-level concert and recording projects have been devised and developed over consecutive seasons. These include the performance of Beethoven’s complete quartets, a tour with Bach’s “The Art of the Fugue,” new recording projects, and pieces composed expressly for the Quartet.

In the 20/21 season, the ensemble will return to perform in Geneva, London (Wigmore Hall) and will give several concerts in Germany, Scandinavia, Holland, as well as at major Italian concert societies. It will also make its debut at Carnegie Hall in New York and Rudolfinum in Prague. Also numerous collaborations with artists of the level of Angela Hewitt, Eckart Runge, Emerson Quartet, Alessandro Carbonare.

In the recording field, 2018 saw the completion of the publication of the complete Beethoven Quartets (Audite): the eight volumes won prestigious recording awards, including Echo Klassik 2017 and ICMA 2018. In spring 2019, with the participation of cellist Eckart Runge, a double CD dedicated to Schubert was released and received enthusiastically by international critics.

Since fall 2011, the ensemble has held the chair of the “Advanced Course for String Quartet” at the Walter Stauffer Academy in Cremona.

In fall 2020 the album “Italian Postcards” was released on the AVIE label, which includes pieces by Mozart, Wolf, Tchaikovsky and a new composition by Nimrod Borenstein. Particularly focused on training and supporting young musicians, the Cremona Quartet is regularly invited to give masterclasses in Europe, North and South America, and Asia and is among the partners of “Le Dimore del Quartetto.”

The ensemble is also a testimonial for Thomastik Infeld Strings and the international project “Friends of Stradivari,” thanks to which it was the first Italian quartet to play Antonio Stradivari’s “Paganini Quartet” on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation (Tokyo) for an extended time.
Members of the quartet are ambassadors of the international “Friends of Stradivari” project and honorary citizens of Cremona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for violin making.
