First concertmaster of Staatskapelle Berlin, Jiyoon Lee has firmly established herself as one of the most versatile and multifaceted artists of her generation. Her ability to excel as a leader, soloist and chamber musician demonstrates her exceptional skill and adaptability across various musical roles.
Jiyoon appears frequently as a soloist with renowned orchestras worldwide. Recent and forthcoming highlights includes concerto performances with Staatskapelle Berlin, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestre National de Belgique, Orquesta de Valencia, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, South Denmark Philharmonic, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Poznan Philharmonic, Slovenian Philharmonic, Brandenburg State Orchestra, Slovak Philharmonic, Armenian State Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic and KBS Symphony Orchestra.
Her debut recording of Korngold & Nielsen Concertos has met much critical acclaim, earning 5 star review and simultaneously named ‘Editor’s Choice’ on BBC Music Magazine as well as on Gramophone Magazine. Her following album titled “Mythes” featuring duo works by Szymanowski, Bartok, Stravinsky and Ravel was described on Gramophone Magazine as “another fine disc from Lee that consolidates her growing reputation and marks her out as an artist to watch in future.”
Her dedication to chamber music allows her to collaborate with diverse artists and explore a wide range of repertoire, enriching her musical growth and experiences. Recent highlights include debut recital in Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin and debut in Wigmore Hall with Elisabeth Leonskaja and Staatskapelle Berlin Quartet. She has performed in Verbier Festival, Kronberg Festival, Hamburg Chamber Music Festival, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Tanglewood Festival and Music in PyeongChang Festival in Korea.
As a passionate leader, Jiyoon has appeared as a guest concertmaster in numerous orchestras such as the Dresden Staatskapelle, Hamburg Staatsoper, Bamberger Symphoniker, Konzerthaus Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, DSO Berlin, Valencia Opera and Orchestre de Paris. As an active guest leader of Boulez Ensemble in Berlin, renowned for its emphasis on modern and contemporary repertoire, she contributes to the vibrant cultural landscape of Berlin’s music scene.
Jiyoon’s musical journey began in Seoul at the age of four. She pursued her education at the Korean National University in Seoul and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where she currently shares her expertise as a faculty member. In recognition of her outstanding achievement and excellence in music, she is a laureate of 2015 Queen Elisabeth Competition and also the first prize winner of Carl Nielsen competition and David Oistrakh competition.
