17 – 20 June 2026
David Shifrin, one of the few clarinet players to receive the Avery Fisher Prize, is a leading figure in the world of clarinet. Renowned for his chamber and solo performances, he has collaborated with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He teaches at the Yale School of Music, where he continues to mentor new generations of clarinettists.
Shifrin is Guest Professor for the Advanced Programme in String Quartet, as part of a special project titled ‘Playing with the Maestro’. Selected string quartets from among the course participants will have the opportunity to rehearse, study, and work with Shifrin in the preparation of a clarinet quintet from the repertoire.
The project will conclude with a final concert featuring the prepared quintets — a unique opportunity to share the stage with a great artist.
