New international project with Japan
A new partnership has been established between the Stauffer Academy and the Tokyo University of the Arts, in collaboration with the Cremona Consortium of Violin Makers. Together, they have launched an educational and artistic exchange programme. The first phase took place in Tokyo in December 2024, featuring the Quartetto di Cremona and the Quartetto Goldberg. This was completed with a second meeting in Cremona, hosting ensembles of Japanese students.
In 2024, the Stauffer Academy and the Tokyo University of the Arts launched an educational and artistic exchange programme, with its first event held from the 16th to the 21st of December, when the Japanese university welcomed the Quartetto di Cremona and the Quartetto Goldberg for a series of masterclasses and concerts. The second stage of the exchange is scheduled from the 10th to the 15th of February 2025, when Stauffer will host two ensembles of Japanese students, allowing them to immerse themselves in the Academy’s educational and artistic activities.
The exchange project was carried out in collaboration with the “Antonio Stradivari” Consortium of Violin Makers, which organized an exhibition of Cremonese instruments at the Tokyo University of the Arts and the Italian Cultural Institute. Giorgio Grisales, President of the Consortium, also delivered a lectio magistralis on the violin making tradition of Cremona, alongside a workshop on the maintenance and care of string instruments.
During their visit to Japan, the Quartetto di Cremona and the Quartetto Goldberg performed in a concert at the Italian Cultural Institute of Tokyo on the 20th of December.
