Stauffer Concerts

Stauffer moves beyond the Academy in the broadest sense, stepping outside the walls of the Palazzo, embracing the City and fulfilling a key educational objective: not just advanced training, but pure concert performance. An openness to the audience — to those who listen and observe — becomes essential, as young musicians learn to interact with the public, manage every aspect of live performance, and adapt to any physical and acoustic space.

Between March and April, Stauffer musicians take the stage for “I Concerti della Stauffer”, a project where, following their masterclasses, they will become co-protagonists alongside artists of the calibre of Kit Armstrong, Kolja Blacher and the Ensemble intercontemporain. The formula is simple: learn from the maestros, play with the maestros!

The curtain rises on the first concert on March 13 at the Museo Civico “Ala Ponzone” (6:30 PM, Sala Manfredini), featuring Kit Armstrong, the extraordinary American pianist and composer, renowned for his versatility, depth, and intellectual curiosity. Alongside Stauffer students, Armstrong will perform a programme dedicated to German Romanticism, featuring works by Schumann and Brahms.

On March 21, at the Violin Museum (8:30 PM, Auditorium G. Arvedi)Kolja Blacher, the acclaimed German violinist, will take the podium to lead the Stauffer&EUYO Ensemble. This ensemble, bringing together musicians from both institutions, will present a programme spanning different eras of musical literature — from Haydn and Mozart to Bartók — showcasing instrumental virtuosity and interpretative versatility.

The final concert takes place on April 4, once again in the prestigious Auditorium G. Arvedi at the Violin Museum (8:30 PM). On this occasion, Stauffer students will share the stage with Ensemble intercontemporain in the concluding event of BOULEZ100, a major project celebrating the centenary of Pierre Boulez. This concert will feature the renowned French ensemble — founded by Boulez himself in 1976 and a landmark for the performance of his works — alongside Stauffer musicians, performing a programme featuring Boulez, Bach, Canat de Chizy and Webern. The concert and project will premiere in Italy and later be reprised in Paris in May.
